Tramshed Tips for Managing Stress

This Wednesday marks the annual National Stress Awareness Day. Sounds exciting right? Well I am sure not everyone will share the same optimism but there is something we can all do to relieve our stress- and the answer is the performing arts.

We all know we can feel stress at times- but what may be surprising is the amount of people who will also be experiencing this. In May this year The World Health Organization (WHO) officially recognised “Burn-Out” as an official medical condition in their International Statistical Classifications of Diseases and Related Health Problems.

 The Tramshed’s key tips:

  • Be creative

Getting involved in a range of performing arts enables you to be creative; focusing on the task in hand- in a creative manner- can take your mind off the negative emotions you may be feeling. Instead revitalising your mind-set and helping to build a happier, creative mind.

  • Embrace the community

It can be so easy for us to be caught up in the day to day, getting by with no real interaction- only the interaction we have on our screen. We can all be forgiven for doing this. Getting involved in a wide range of performing arts activities encourages real-life interaction, in-turn helping to build belonging in a community of like-minded individuals.

You will be able to get involved in a variety of activities in a safe-space, an environment with no judgement where your confidence will be able to flourish.

  • Welcome your emotions

The performing arts offer an opportunity to process and release difficult emotions- it’s ok we all have them! Taking a risk to perform to the world is a form of character building; the effort required can develop our coping skills, in doing so we can become mentally stronger and increasingly able to deal with challenges.

  • Have a laugh!

Sounds a lot more complicated than that right? Well, laughing yoga is sweeping the nation and has been recognised as a simple and effective means to release stress.

We all know we can feel stress at times- but what may be surprising is the amount of people who will also be experiencing this. Whether you are young or old- or don’t like to admit either- there are solutions to relieve your stress.
