One Man Shows

One Man Shows

A contemporary adaptation of William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, that was created during the Covid-19 pandemic, and exists on Zoom webinar.

With the current theatre closures, how can we translate ways of working - replicating the world we remember online? How do we form the fundamental connections we experience in live theatre settings?

Directed by Minnie Crook, One Man Shows is a contemporary adaptation of William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. Performed by artists isolated across the world, this work explores separation and togetherness; investigating a new found reliance on technology. Through ideas of perspective, pretence and disguise; this all-female company manipulates the ordinary into the absurd, the regular into the bizarre; questioning the loss of the theatre itself.

Minnie Crook (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist and director based in Glasgow. Her live art typically uses visual projection, persona and acapella song to further understand the 'past' as irretrievable moments in time. Through her work she explores themes of presence and absence, and personal memory vs the collective recollection, to ultimately understand how we are shaped by the societal manoeuvrings of the world.

One Man Shows is live. Performed and orchestrated from around the world, including Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Scotland and England. We have found a way to be together during this strange time of separation.
