Plaything by Isabella Thompson, 7:30pm
Everybody thinks she’s a child, including that bloke on the telly. How many characters will it take for this cabaret performer to prove her worth? Or will she always be this industry’s plaything… 'Plaything' follows a comedy cabaret performer who is notorious for her on-stage toddler persona. After an unfortunate live TV interview, she feels forced to take radical action to redeem herself. The tactic? To perform a brand new character every time she steps on stage. The story of ‘Plaything’ highlights the conflicting expectations and demands of womxn in the arts. We zoom in on the infantilisation and patronisation that young female performers face in the industry today using cameos from the past to ask ourselves “how did we get here?” This meta-theatrical, multi-layered production forges a deep connection with its audience whilst consistently challenging their preconceptions of the performing arts industry and even the medium of theatre itself.

BRAINS by Day Job Theatre, 9:00pm
Kiera was a zombiephile (a fan of all undead media) but now finds the tropes hit a bit too close to home. Henry prefers rom-coms and couldn’t spot a cliché until it was biting him in the face. The contrast between Kiera’s laissez-faire attitude towards getting eaten and Henry’s desperation to make it through to the other side prompts the question, “Why survive when there’s nothing to live for?”
